Air Conditioning Repair in Spokane, WA
When the AC runs without cooling, stops unexpectedly or leaves ice and water behind, the symptom is only the beginning. MASTER Heating & Cooling tests the system, explains the cause and reviews the repair before work starts.
- Same-day availability
- Central AC diagnostics
- Upfront repair decision
- 1-year labor warranty
Different AC Problems Can Feel Exactly the Same Indoors
Warm rooms do not automatically mean “low refrigerant.” Airflow, controls, electrical components, drainage and the refrigeration circuit all affect cooling.
01 · WARM AIRThe blower runs, but cooling does not
The outdoor unit may be off, the compressor circuit may not start, airflow may be restricted or the refrigeration system may not be moving heat normally.
02 · NO STARTNothing responds
Thermostat, power, condensate safety, controls or electrical protection may interrupt operation.
03 · SHORT CYCLEStarts and stops repeatedly
Control faults, airflow problems, overheating components or an equipment mismatch can shorten cycles.
04 · WATERMoisture appears near the unit
A blocked drain, failed pump, frozen coil or damaged pan can move water where it does not belong.
05 · ICEThe coil or refrigerant line freezes
Restricted airflow and refrigeration problems are common possibilities. Running it frozen can make matters worse.
06 · NOISEA new mechanical or electrical sound
Buzzing, grinding, rattling and squealing each deserve context. Shut the system off if the sound is severe.
Cooling Starts Outdoors, but the Answer May Be Indoors
The condenser is only half of a central air conditioner. Indoor airflow, the evaporator coil, blower, filter, drain, thermostat and duct system can create or contribute to the cooling complaint.
That is why the service visit follows the symptom through the full system. If one room stays hot while the rest of the house cools, the problem may be distribution rather than refrigeration. If every room gets warm while the outdoor fan runs, the testing moves in a different direction.
- Temperature and airflow at the equipment and registers
- Thermostat call and low-voltage controls
- Indoor and outdoor electrical components
- Coil condition, drainage and signs of freezing
- Refrigeration measurements when the diagnosis requires them

A Repair Visit Built Around a Verifiable Cause
Describe
Tell us when cooling changed, what the thermostat shows and anything already tried.
Test
We inspect the equipment connected to the symptom and reproduce the failure where possible.
Decide
You receive the findings, repair option and price before approved work begins.
Verify
After the repair, we run the system and confirm the relevant operation rather than stopping at the replaced part.
Some Cooling Problems Can Wait. Others Should Not.
Shut it off now
Smoke, a burning electrical odor, repeated breaker trips, severe mechanical noise or water reaching electrical components.
Arrange prompt service
Recurring ice, leaking condensate, short cycling, warm air or an outdoor unit that will not start.
Schedule planned diagnostics
Uneven rooms, rising runtime, a mild new noise or comfort that has gradually declined without an active hazard.
Do Not Let One Number Make the Entire Decision
Equipment age matters, but it does not decide the case alone. A repairable electrical failure on a system that otherwise cools the home well is not the same as a major refrigerant-side repair on equipment with long-standing comfort problems.
The useful comparison includes current condition, the failed component, refrigerant and part support, previous repairs, indoor-outdoor compatibility and what the system was doing before it stopped.
Compare AC installation and replacement →What Determines the Cost of AC Repair?
The same “no cooling” complaint can lead to very different repairs. Pricing comes after testing, not from the symptom alone.
- Failed part: control, motor, compressor-related component or another assembly
- Diagnostic time: steady failure versus an intermittent problem
- Refrigerant work: leak location, access, repairability and refrigerant type
- Equipment access: service clearances and indoor coil location
- Part availability: common service part or model-specific order
- Related cause: isolated failure or airflow, drainage or electrical condition
AC Repair FAQ
Why is my AC running but blowing warm air?
The outdoor unit may not be operating, airflow may be restricted, the indoor coil may be frozen, a control or electrical component may have failed, or the refrigerant circuit may have a problem. Turn the system off if you see ice or hear an abnormal mechanical noise and schedule diagnostics.
Can I keep running an air conditioner with ice on the coil or line?
No. Continuing to run a frozen system can worsen the condition and may stress the compressor. Turn cooling off, leave the fan setting as advised for the situation, and arrange service. Do not chip ice from the coil.
How much does AC repair cost?
The cost follows the diagnosis. A failed capacitor, blocked drain, motor problem, leak search and compressor-related repair require different parts and labor. We review the repair scope and price before approved work begins.
What can I check before calling for AC repair?
Confirm the thermostat is set to cooling, check that the filter is not severely clogged and look for a tripped breaker once. Do not repeatedly reset a breaker, open electrical panels or add refrigerant. If the breaker trips again, leave it off.
Is an AC refrigerant recharge a complete repair?
Not when refrigerant escaped from a leak. The system is sealed, so low charge points to a loss that should be evaluated. The repair path depends on where the leak is, the equipment condition and the refrigerant used.
When should I compare AC replacement?
Compare replacement when the system has recurring major failures, a repair that is difficult to justify for its condition, poor performance that predates the breakdown or compatibility and refrigerant limitations. A single repairable fault does not automatically mean replacement.
