Why is my heat pump running but not heating the house?

Is frost on a heat pump normal in winter?

A light, even frost can be normal before the system enters defrost. Thick ice that remains, returns quickly, blocks the coil or surrounds the base is not something to chip away. Turn the system off if operation looks unsafe and arrange service.

What does emergency heat mean on my thermostat?
